Printmaking Workshop: Scratching the Surface
9th June 2018 @ 10:00 am - 7th July 2018 @ 5:00 pm| £50
Join us in the Spinning Mill Studios on Saturday 9th June for an introductory beginners workshop to intaglio printmaking.
Intaglio is the family of printing and printmaking techniques in which the image is incised into a surface and the incised line or sunken area holds the ink. It is the direct opposite of a relief print.
In the workshop led by artist Laney Birkhead Painter Printmaker, you will learn how to score into metal and plastic plates and create a range of tonal surfaces ready to ink up and press on an etching press.
You will explore inking up and wiping techniques and use a small etching press to create your own series of intaglio prints to take home.
You will also be introduced to basic Chine Colle* methods to provide instant colour and pattern to your prints.
*Chine-collé is a special technique in printmaking, in which the image is transferred to a surface that is bonded to a heavier support in the printing process. One purpose is to allow the printmaker to print on a much more delicate surface, such as Japanese paper or linen, which pulls finer details off the plate.
Price includes light refreshments (tea/coffee and homemade cake)
There will be a £5 materials charge payable on the day.
Attendees can receive refunds up to 7 days before the event start date.
