8th July 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 2nd September 2017 @ 4:00 pm
Join us in the Finishing Room on Saturday 8th July from 13.30 to celebrate the opening of Somebody. Anybody. The second show by our regular life drawing class.
Life drawing, once only available to men who had completed years of rigorous academic study drawing from sculptures and anatomical plaster casts, is now being rediscovered. Sunny Bank Mills, has been running a popular Life Class for three years, facilitated by Yorkshire based artists Kim Coley and Mel Davies.
The students come from all walks of life; they are people who have an interest in art and are keen to develop their own creative skills. Nothing quite compares to the first time one finds oneself in the presence of an uninhibited and startlingly nude human body. The question that everyone asks is “would I have the confidence to do that?” and the answer is probably no! Any modesty or surprise is quickly overcome, as the imperative is to get something down on paper before the next pose is struck.
The Life Model is an exceptional person, modelling for any number of reasons, often artists themselves, and regularly requiring the sheer physical stamina to pose for up to twenty or thirty minutes at a stretch. The Sunny Bank Life Models include dancers, student artists, Mums, Dads, and occasionally Grandparents.
A student’s personal artistic style will become apparent, appreciated and recognised by the others, and by the viewer. Quirky or talented, very occasionally academically accurate but invariably, individual, or idiosyncratic works of art.
For the preview, Mel Davies and Kim Coley will be running Life Class Live, providing you with the opportunity to have a go and unleash your inner artist.
The exhibition continues until 27th August.
