Clay Pipes found behind the Archive

As the site changes through regeneration the soil is revealing some interesting finds behind the Archive.  These fragments of Victorian clay pipes were discovered in the wood at the top of the site.  Perhaps the site for mill workers to have a smoke in their break; some things never change. A few of the pipes are plain but a few have images carved into them.  A plant motif and an acorn design.  The clay pipe would have been a familiar site and were cheap and fragile in construction so it is not surprising that a pile of remains have been discovered on site here at Sunny Bank Mills.  It does however, help to build a bigger picture of the real life and work of the mill workers of Sunny Bank Mills at this time.
