A group of Family History Students attended a half day course at Sunny Bank Mills. Jackie Depelle, their course tutor, said “The tour of Sunny Bank Mills gives my students a wonderful insight into mill life and the history behind the development of the mills. So many Yorkshire families have a connection with the mills in one way or the other.”

William Gaunt gave a short lecture on the resources the Sunny Bank Archive presents to researchers and the connection the primary source documents gives us to the folk that worked in the mill. There then followed a tour of the mills, during which William retold the story of Sunny Bank and other mills in the surrounding area; how the mill which was built collectively by a humble group of village weavers, changed hands and became one of the most reknowned in the country.
